Background on Lucia BarnumOriginally from Berkeley, California, Lucia Barnum is a senior at Northwestern University studying Journalism, Environmental Policy and Culture, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Growing up in Northern California during the Tubbs, Camp, and Dixie fires from 2017 through 2020, wildfires and environmental policy have always been front-of-mind for Lucia in both academic and journalism contexts. Before becoming a 2024 Circumnavigator Grant recipient, Lucia served as the audio editor for the Daily Northwestern, the head podcast editor at WNUR, and a Capitol Hill immigration and demographics reporter for the Medill Service. She has also worked for GBH News in Boston and YR Media in Oakland, California. In 2022, Lucia received a Summer Undergraduate Research Grant from Northwestern University to produce a podcast series on an Illinois House race in Palatine, IL, and formerly serviced as a Leopold Research Fellow at Northwestern's History Department. Outside of school and work, she can be found creating setlists for her weekly radio show, trying new recipes, or working on her bike.
