Foundation Scholar Juniper Shelley

The Chicago Chapter of the Circumnavigators Club and Northwestern University have sponsored Juniper Shelley to make a global circumnavigation while conducting research on her topic entitled: "Rewriting Manhood: Cross-Cultural Approaches to Male Connection and Growth". This topic is outlined further in the Research Topic section below.

Background on Juniper Shelley

Juniper ascribes her love of travel to her parents' summer vacations during her formative years. She has continued that theme by spending this winter quarter in Australia on a Northwestern study abroad program. Having spent her first two collegiate years at Vassar studying international relations , she has now transfered to Northwestern to complete her major course of study via Northwestern.

The Study Grant Topic

In this study-grant I will explore how public language use reflects efforts to revitalize and represent minority languages. From street signs and museum labels to graffiti and posters, I’m interested in how everyday language in public spaces tells stories about identity, accessibility, and belonging.
